Lisa Verschoor Smith is a professional Astrologer practicing in the Green Mountains of Southern Vermont. She has studied and practiced her craft since 1986. Her goal is to assist others in raising their level of consciousness and aid in their personal development. She is a member of NCGR, ISAR, AFA, AFAN, and OPA as well as the Astrological Society of Great Britian. Lisa has taught Astrology and Tarot, written articles for various newspapers and magazines, done a variety of radio shows, as well as articles and horoscopes for Wisdom Magazine, Lifetime TV, Ever Changing and Main Street News. Lisa's newest endeavor is a workshop called "Plan It By The Moon" which assists others in understanding the cycles of the Moon and learning how to utilize them in planning events in their life.
Her clientele spans a broad range of individuals from television stars, teachers, psychologists, doctors, lawyers, and housewives, to farmers, stockbrokers and corporations. About Astrology
A broad range of astrological knowledge has been found worldwide, and continues to be very carefully and seriously studied by scholars. It is known that almost all ancients including, the Native Americans, India, Greeks and Sumerians examined the heavens for divinatory purposes and used some form of astrology. These people noted that most of the stars that they saw in the heavens were stationary in correlation to each other. The heavens were also examined carefully for omens that might affect their kingdom. They observed and maintained lists of phenomena that eventually showed recurring cycles of the planets and forecasts that were reasonably accurate based on these movements. They referred to these stars as fixed and observed that there were five visible stars which, in contrast to others, were revolving around the Earth along a narrow line. This was called the ecliptic which loops around the Earth at a particular angle and is the same line which is traveled by the Sun, Moon and the five visible stars. Over time, this belt was divided into 12 sections. Most of them are named after animals where specific characteristics best describe the energy that emanated from each. This was the birth of the Zodiac. The people who observe the Zodiac noticed that when a planet passes through a particular area, it triggered certain events. As well, similar characteristics of babies born on the same day were compared to those born when the Sun returned to the same place each year. As today, scientists make observations and note same outcomes by physical laws. This is how Newton's Law of Gravity and other scientific laws were formulated. Astrology uses exactly the same method and principle. First the planetary position of the event or birth is noted These observations are then documented along with noting patterns and behavior.
The horoscopic Astrology we read in newspaper today is very general information derived from this ancient tradition. It is important to note that not all horoscopes are written by astrologers. Therefore, it is important to find out who and where the information is coming from before following any advice!
