Planetary info for February 2012

February begins with the celebration of  Imbolc, or the Feast of St. Brigit, an ancient Celtic tradition. As Brigit (light bringer) was associated with fire and the Sun, it was also a custom at her Feast to traditionally burn your old Christmas tree! Thus, she also became known as the Saint of the Flame. This ritual marked the advent of Spring and was connected to the lactation of Ewes.

The Sun in innovative Aquarius until the 19th will help us connect with like-minded individuals and bring an ease to most social interactions. Things may come together out of the blue, sudden ideas spring up, networking is infused with inspiration, and serendipitous connections are beneficial for all concerned. Alternatively, it's also a period of revolution and rebellion if life hasn't been going so well in the particular area of the globe you happen to be inhabiting!

The big News this month concerns the planet Neptune moving into Pisces on February 3 for the next 13 years! This transition will result in many changes over the coming decade.

In Astrology, each planet is ruled by one of the 12 Zodiac signs. After wandering through all the other 11 signs of the Zodiac, Neptune is returning home, once again,  to his true source, the watery sign of Pisces. According to the Romans, he was known as "God of the Sea" and symbolized by a 3 pronged spear or "trident". In Greek mythology, Neptune was known as Poseidon, "earth shaker", for when he was angered, he would strike the Earth and cause earthquakes. Just how angry do you suppose a contemporary Neptune would be relative to our irresponsible guardianship of the Earth and her seas? We shall see....

Neptune is known for blurred vision and Pisces for lack of boundaries. Each of us has this last sign of the Zodiac, Pisces, located somewhere in our personal chart. Therefore, we will be experiencing the influence of this combined powerhouse, in some area of our life, for quite awhile! Those who are inclined to be  a bit  "watery" to begin with, or who have a preponderance of water planets in their chart (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces), should find the initial impact unnoticeable! Also, at some juncture of your life, you may have already experienced the liquidity of Neptune if you were "going with the flow", "swimming with the tide" or inspired by music, art, poetry, love!  When the transcendence of Neptune is combined with the compassion of Pisces, you have an elevated period marked by broad-minded spiritual endeavors,  the desire to reach out to others less fortunate (the underdog) and the desire to be a catalyst in raising consciousness! However, as "free will" would have it, the high road (light) does not always prevail. The dark side of this may be the complete lack of boundaries, ultra sensitivity to life force to the point of being paralyzed to act, illusion and/or desire for escape, and over-indulging in food, alcohol or drugs. As with all things in life, we have a choice to work with them or attempt to "control ".  Much as you may wish to fight the forces, stepping into your full spiritual power will be to your advantage!  More on Neptune to come!

On February 7, we have a Full Moon in the sign of Leo (pride) at 4:54p est. The Sun opposing the Moon highlights the contrast between the choice to melt into the collective or standing out in the group. Self confidence is something that waivers in Leo. Am I as good or not good enough.... Whatever your inherent gift, you will be called to contribute your best efforts to the whole, while not loosing yourself in the process. Try to avoid embellishing the truth or, at least stay away from those that do and the resulting drama.

Saturn in Libra (relationship, balance and justice) turns retrograde on the day of the Full Moon and cautions those who hold their personal truths to be the ultimate truth when it comes to partnership, to take time to contemplate and regroup! Saturn is the planet that rules over time and structures and will be in retrograde until June 25th. A great deal of wisdom may be gleaned from this period if you work towards clarity of purpose and evaluate what you truly desire in relationship. Work on improving bond with loved ones. As Saturn completes His 9 month journey through Libra, the sign of relationships, you are charged with doing the necessary work to birth a new path (9mths), or,  prepare to move on and let go.

The Sun moves into Pisces on the 19th, and cozys up to Neptune while planting a hot, wet kiss on his illusionary forehead! This is wonderful energy for artists and those wanting to collaborate on artistic endeavors. Meditation reaps great rewards! While the Sun makes its way through the watery sign of Pisces each year, we are all more sensitive to the plight of others. This is the reason it is so important to psychically visualize a barrier of protection. Use a golden white light to surround yourself and avoid chaos as much as possible. Concentrate on making your own pie!

The New Moon occurs at 2 degrees Pisces, 5:35p on February 21, the same day as Mardi Gras begins! Neptune stands right next to the Sun and Moon bringing a sense of expansive compassion and heightened emotions. This is a perfect time to connect with others of like-mind, drum, play music, escape, have fun, tell stories and just BE a part of the collective ONE. Set your intentions on this powerful day when the veil between the physical and non-physical is close to non-existent! Make a list of what you want to create, manifest, and/or see materialize in your life and then tuck it away for safe-keeping, knowing the Universe will provide!
